A new column for this website is to remember previous issues of the Ho`oulu, St. John’s official newsletter. In this post, we’re going to look back at our May-June 2006 issue where we remember our last official visit by the Rt. Rev. Richard S.O. Chang.
For this issue, I originally intended to include Bishop Chang’s sermon in written form. However the idea was shot to the ground when he showed me that his entire notes were just a tiny outline of points to cover–everthing was pretty much done extemporaneously and without going off into meaningless tangents!
The other thing I remember about that day was the Bishop humorously making a post-9/11 commentary of the times, explaining how difficult it was to transport his wooden Crosier onto airplanes without raising TSA agents’ suspicions!
In this issue of the Ho`oulu:
- A recollection of Bishop Richard S.O. Chang’s last official visit as Bishop of Hawaii
- A pictorial teaching how to have an extravagant lu`au in three easy steps
- Baptisms and Confirmations done between January and June 2006
